Natural deodorant that actually works – Black Chicken deodorant review

When I told my husband I was looking for a natural deodorant that actually works, he looked at me with those “you trying to be a hippy” eyes.  I wish I could be more free-spirited and get my ‘zen’ on, whilst doing yoga & pilates – but in all seriousness, I was looking for a natural deodorant that doesn’t contain all the nasties and chemicals like aluminium.   Whilst the premise behind aluminium is to temporarily plug the sweat ducts and prevent you from perspiring – we all know that sweating is your body’s way of cooling down.  Aluminium has also been linked to breast cancer, bone disorders, kidney problems + more!   So our quest to find an amazing natural deodorant that actually works, lead us to try out the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant with Barrier Booster (for sensitive skin) and our friends at Sassy Organics generously sent us one to try out!

Natural deodorant that actually works – Black Chicken deodorant paste review

As much as we don’t often talk about our deodorant around the table at the local coffee shop, finding a natural deodorant that helps to stop or neutralise body odour can be really hard.  I had researched so many different products before I decided to try out the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant, and because I often find I have quite sensitive skin, I was even more worried about finding the right one.

Natural deodorant for sensitive skin

I have tried a few different natural deodorant brands in the past.  Most of these were from years ago, and boy, things have sure progressed in recent times! One ingredient that is often used within natural deodorants is bi-carbonate soda. Whilst it is effective in many natural deodorants, it can often lead to a rash for some people – particularly those with sensitive skin.

Keeping this in mind, I decided that trying out the new Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste, which has a Barrier Booster for sensitive skin would be a fantastic deodorant to try.  With other gorgeous ingredients including: shea butter, coconut oil, borage seed oil, camellia tea oil, vitamin E oil, vegetable glycerin, candelilla wax, magnesium hydroxide, diatomaceous earth powder, tapioca, and essential oils including pink grapefruit, mandarin, geranium bourbon & ylang ylang.

Natural deodorant made in Australia

It’s important to me to try & support local businesses and Australian made where possible.  So I was extra excited when I found out that the Black Chicken Deodorant heralds from the coastal town of Byron Bay and is Aussie through and through.  They are also a Vegan and cruelty free brand, and their deodorant contains mostly certified organic ingredients, which is an extra tick of approval from me.

How to apply natural deodorant paste

To apply the deodorant paste, it is as simple as putting moisturiser on your armpits!  Simply grab a pea sized amount of the deodorant paste with your finger and gently rub it into your armpits until it is warm and dissolves.  That’s it – it couldn’t be easier!

The verdict – does Black Chicken natural deodorant paste actually work?

We put this little tub of magic to the test, and it certainly didn’t disappoint!  We have been using the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste with Barrier Booster (for sensitive skin) for nearly 3 weeks and we have had a range of weather here in Queensland, including some ridiculously hot 35-40 degree days!  I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t scared that it wouldn’t hold up its’ end of the bargain.

Over the last 2-3 weeks I have included all my normal daily activities and some not-so-everyday activities too – eg. gardening up a storm and mowing, strength training, baking with a hot oven on (which always gets me a little ‘hot under the collar’) and a few long walks.

So between you and me, I actually couldn’t believe it – this natural deodorant paste actually works better than my old anti-perspirant spray deodorant!  I’m not easily converted, and I was extremely skeptical, but I am so pleased to say that I LOVE the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste with Barrier Booster (for sensitive skin) and would highly recommend it!
