As a busy mum, I often get to 6pm and wonder to myself, does the family really need to eat dinner again?!

Jokes aside, life seems to get busier and busier, and the chaos that is dinner time doesn’t seem to get easier.  From after-school activities, helping the kids with homework, getting the washing off the line, or just general exhaustion from a busy day.  Sometimes there is nothing better than having a quick, easy and healthy dinner only minutes away.  Thanks to Marathon Foods, their new minion dim sims provide just that – a quick and easy dinner option, that is healthy too!

Those adorable little yellow minions are a favourite with both kids and adults alike.  Made famous from  the Despicable Me movies, they are cute and always give you a good giggle.  Marathon Foods latest product are minion dim sims – but no, they don’t contain minions, and no minions were harmed in producing these bites of deliciousness!

Minion dim sims are proudly made by Marathon Foods, an Australian family-owned company who have been producing quality frozen foods for over 55 years.

Dim sims with 100% Aussie chicken and vegetables

Minion-dim-sims-with-saladWhat we loved about the minion dim sims is that they are made using  all natural ingredients including 100% Australian chicken and farm fresh, local vegetables.

Each serving (2 dim sims) is equivalent to 1/3 of your child’s recommended daily vegetable intake.  They also contain a nice blend of spices including salt, garlic powder, ground ginger and pepper.

No artificial flavours or colours

A big consideration for our household is trying to reduce as many artificial flavours and colours in the food we eat.

We have noticed big differences in behaviour and skin conditions when we actively avoid too many products that contain artificial flavours or colours.

It was a big tick from our family, as the minion dim sims have no artificial flavours, no artificial colours, no added MSG, are a good source of protein and as mentioned above use 100% Australian chicken.

How to serve your dim sims

You can choose to steam, fry, bbq or microwave your dim sims, with the various instructions (excluding bbq’ing) on the packaging.  We chose to eat the dim sims on 2 separate occasions, both times accompanied by a yummy salad.  We included lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado and corn in our salad, and the salad complemented the dim sims and made for a really easy dinner to put together.

Steamed dim sims

in an effort to maintain a healthier ‘fast food’ option, we chose to steam the dim sims, and also tried oven baking them (even though this wasn’t included on the serving suggestions).

When we oven baked the dim sims, the outer pastry was a little tough to cut, but the inside filling of the dim sim had a really nice flavour.  You can taste that they are made with quality ingredients, and don’t taste like some frozen foods do – with no flavour.

Miss 8 thought they tasted delicious, as did my husband and I. Master 6 (who isn’t a big meat eater) only ate half a dim sim and said it was ‘ok’, but devoured his salad as he always does.

We also had the dim sims on a separate evening, and this time decided to steam the dim sims.  This was by far the better option, and really enhanced the flavour and texture of the dim sims.  We thought they tasted good the first time, but the second time (when they were steamed), they tasted even better! Master 6 even ate an entire dim sim (which is pretty awesome, as he doesn’t love meat).

Dim sim ingredients and nutrition

We aren’t qualified nutritionists, so can’t provide detailed nutrition advice. However as a mum I feel comfortable in offering this as an ‘occasional’ food for a quick, easy dinner, when served with other salad or vegetables.

The Best Natural Oil For Your Face

Often our skin care routine can suffer when modern life takes over. Rushing to get to work, taking the kids to school, looking after a household and family.  We are usually the last person on our list to get some self-care – including looking after our skin.  I am often asked “What is the best natural oil for your face?”, so I set off to find a beautiful nourishing face oil, that is suitable for ALL skin types!

The best natural oil for your face

I have combination skin, and to be honest ‘ageing skin’ (those dreaded words).  So finding and using a beautiful, natural face oil as part of my beauty routine was high priority.

There are many face oils on the market, so it can be hard to narrow it down to just one.  What was important to us, was that it was suitable for all skin types, which then narrows down the field a lot. We were so excited when we came across the Paudha Healing’s Nourish & Repair Face Oil, and their gorgeous range of natural skin care.

Paudha Healing’s Nourish & Repair Face Oil is a unique blend of natural oils that have been carefully selected to provide maximum benefits to the skin, with minimal ingredients. The Nourish & Repair Face Oil is made using Jojoba Oil, Rosehip CO2 Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Helianthus annus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Rosemary Extract, Essential Oils of Rose Geranium and Frankincense.

Jojoba oil is closest to the skin’s own natural sebum. It helps to modulate oil production, which makes it ideal for both oily and dry skin conditions. It also provides a protective barrier for the skin and is deeply moisturising. Rosehip oil is rich in vitamins A and E, which help fight the signs of premature ageing. While Calendula provides anti-inflammatory properties to calm the skin and reduce redness. The essential oils of frankincense and rose geranium also provide skin healing properties and a calming aroma.

Your skin will drink this oil up and be forever grateful!

The best natural face oil for dry skin

Although I have combination skin, it tends to be more dry than oily, so finding a face oil that worked for all skin types was an important item on my list.

I apply the Nourish & Repair Face Oil each morning before my make-up, and then use a Rose Quartz Facial Roller to reduce puffiness, improve skin tone and improve my skin elasticity.

I have oily skin, so I can’t use a face oil

So often I hear people say ‘I have oily skin, so I can’t use a face oil’, and they couldn’t be more wrong! By using products that are harsh and strip your face of natural oils, in fact means that your body will begin to overcompensate and produce even more oils.  This then leads to the clogging of pores and breakouts, which is not what we want for our skin.  Using an oil on your face can help you to balance your complexion naturally.

Natural face oil made in Australia

It’s important to me to try & support local businesses and Australian made where possible.  So I absolutely love that the Nourish & Repair Face Oil from Paudha Healing is made in our very own Blue Mountains, NSW here in Australia.  All their gorgeous skin care is lovingly handmade, making it extra special, and so wonderful to know that you are helping a family-owned and operated business.  Paudha Healing are also a Vegan and cruelty free brand, and most of their products also using certified organic ingredients, which is an extra tick of approval from me.

best-natural-oil-for-your-face-paudha-healingHow to apply the Nourish & Repair Face Oil

Using the dropper supplied, apply 2-3 drops to the palm of your hand and gently massage into your face.   You can use the natural face oil in place of your normal moisturiser, or before moisturising for added hydration.  It really is so simple & easy to include into your skincare routine.

The verdict – is this the best natural oil for your face?

I have been using this beautiful natural oil on our face for over a year, and we absolutely love it!  I have put it through its’ paces during both the warmer and cooler months and have been impressed with its’ versatility.   I like to use the face oil in a few different ways.  Firstly, I apply a few drops each morning before I use the Rose Quartz Facial Roller.  With their powers combined, the Nourish & Repair Face Oil and Quartz Facial Roller improve circulation and lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness and enhance your overall skin tone and complexion.  The coolness of the Quartz Facial Roller is just amazing…. and I always enjoy those few minutes of bliss each morning.  I then simply apply my foundation over the top of the face oil, and it acts just like a primer.  My foundation glides on after applying the face oil, and feels amazing.

I also apply the Nourish & Repair Face Oil after my evening moisturiser before I head to bed.  This allows  the face oil to assist in nourishing and repairing my skin each night.  The Paudha Healing Nourish & Repair Face oil is the best natural oil for your face, and we would highly recommend it!

Where can I buy Nourish & Repair Face Oil?

You can find this little pot of gold over at Paudha Healing – they have a gorgeous range of natural and organic skincare, and are proud to be a 100% Cruelty Free Australian skincare brand too!

Natural deodorant that actually works – Black Chicken deodorant review

natural-deodorant-that-actually-works-black-chicken-deodorant-review

When I told my husband I was looking for a natural deodorant that actually works, he looked at me with those “you trying to be a hippy” eyes.  I wish I could be more free-spirited and get my ‘zen’ on, whilst doing yoga & pilates – but in all seriousness, I was looking for a natural deodorant that doesn’t contain all the nasties and chemicals like aluminium.   Whilst the premise behind aluminium is to temporarily plug the sweat ducts and prevent you from perspiring – we all know that sweating is your body’s way of cooling down.  Aluminium has also been linked to breast cancer, bone disorders, kidney problems + more!   So our quest to find an amazing natural deodorant that actually works, lead us to try out the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant with Barrier Booster (for sensitive skin) and our friends at Sassy Organics generously sent us one to try out!

Natural deodorant that actually works – Black Chicken deodorant paste review

As much as we don’t often talk about our deodorant around the table at the local coffee shop, finding a natural deodorant that helps to stop or neutralise body odour can be really hard.  I had researched so many different products before I decided to try out the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant, and because I often find I have quite sensitive skin, I was even more worried about finding the right one.

Natural deodorant for sensitive skin

I have tried a few different natural deodorant brands in the past.  Most of these were from years ago, and boy, things have sure progressed in recent times! One ingredient that is often used within natural deodorants is bi-carbonate soda. Whilst it is effective in many natural deodorants, it can often lead to a rash for some people – particularly those with sensitive skin.

Keeping this in mind, I decided that trying out the new Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste, which has a Barrier Booster for sensitive skin would be a fantastic deodorant to try.  With other gorgeous ingredients including: shea butter, coconut oil, borage seed oil, camellia tea oil, vitamin E oil, vegetable glycerin, candelilla wax, magnesium hydroxide, diatomaceous earth powder, tapioca, and essential oils including pink grapefruit, mandarin, geranium bourbon & ylang ylang.

Natural deodorant made in Australia

It’s important to me to try & support local businesses and Australian made where possible.  So I was extra excited when I found out that the Black Chicken Deodorant heralds from the coastal town of Byron Bay and is Aussie through and through.  They are also a Vegan and cruelty free brand, and their deodorant contains mostly certified organic ingredients, which is an extra tick of approval from me.

How to apply natural deodorant paste

To apply the deodorant paste, it is as simple as putting moisturiser on your armpits!  Simply grab a pea sized amount of the deodorant paste with your finger and gently rub it into your armpits until it is warm and dissolves.  That’s it – it couldn’t be easier!

The verdict – does Black Chicken natural deodorant paste actually work?

We put this little tub of magic to the test, and it certainly didn’t disappoint!  We have been using the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste with Barrier Booster (for sensitive skin) for nearly 3 weeks and we have had a range of weather here in Queensland, including some ridiculously hot 35-40 degree days!  I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t scared that it wouldn’t hold up its’ end of the bargain.

Over the last 2-3 weeks I have included all my normal daily activities and some not-so-everyday activities too – eg. gardening up a storm and mowing, strength training, baking with a hot oven on (which always gets me a little ‘hot under the collar’) and a few long walks.

So between you and me, I actually couldn’t believe it – this natural deodorant paste actually works better than my old anti-perspirant spray deodorant!  I’m not easily converted, and I was extremely skeptical, but I am so pleased to say that I LOVE the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste with Barrier Booster (for sensitive skin) and would highly recommend it!

If you loved this article, then we’d love you to share it with your friends – when you find something as good as this natural deodorant that actually works, it’s a crime to keep it to yourself!
